It sounds futuristic, but the hologram is already widely used. Many people will have an idea of what a hologram is. A hologram provides a three-dimensional image of a product or object that seems tangible due to the play of light. They come in all shapes and sizes.

How does holography work?

A hologram seems tangible, but it is not. In fact, it is a flat image. By viewing the 'image' from different angles and from the right spots, the flat image appears to change, creating the impression of a spatial, three-dimensional image. The trick is that you have to look from the right angle because the result can only be perceived from a certain angle, and the 3D effect emerges. Therefore, a good illusion requires a lot of experience and expertise.

Creating it is a complex and technical story. To make it, a laser is shone on a cloth or mirror. Part of the laser is reflected to a lens. The lens breaks the beam into a light bundle and then falls on a photographic plate. The other part of the laser is allowed through the cloth or mirror and reflected in the same way to the lens. Because the laser beams do not arrive at the plate simultaneously, a hologram is created. Essentially, two images are made that are transformed by our brains into a hologram.

What can I do with a hologram?

There are many possibilities with a hologram. An important reason to use a hologram is if the object is not physically present. A hologram can, for example, be used to launch a new product on the market. Through a hologram, the product can already be shown to the public, making a fantastic start that convinces the potential customer. The hologram can be projected small, but also large.
