‘Governance is human work’ as the theme of the VNG Annual Congress 2019

Every year, the VNG organizes an annual congress for its members. This year's edition focused on the theme ‘governance is human work’, aiming to highlight the human side of this meaningful profession.

Barneveld on the map

This year, the event was hosted by the municipality of Barneveld in the Midden Nederland Hallen. This enormous venue had to accommodate 2,600 local administrators during the two congress days. The municipality of Barneveld found it particularly beautiful to be able to put the city on the map in this way. The mayor of Barneveld, Asje van Dijk, was delighted to welcome the enormous delegation to his municipality and warmly welcomed everyone.

Actor Gijs Scholten opened the annual congress by quoting from the works of William Shakespeare. Mayor van Dijk then took the stage to warmly welcome the participants and addressed this year's theme. VNG chairman, and also mayor of the municipality of Utrecht, Jan van Zanen then took over.

Partner of this national event

For the seventh consecutive time, Heuvelman was the producer of the Annual Congress. As a result, we were not only responsible for the audiovisual technology but also for the total setup of the venue. For example, we provided a 30m wide widescreen for the plenary presentation, divided over 3 screens. The content was designed so that these 3 screens formed a single combined image.

The hall in Barneveld could barely accommodate the enormous number of interested parties. To prevent people from not being able to follow the program in the hall, the program was also broadcast on screens outside the hall. On the 2nd congress day, we provided a live stream of the Chairman's Annual Address, the minister's speech, and the General Members Meeting. These parts were broadcast live on Twitter.

Beautiful visuals

Again this year, our content designers were allowed to design the most beautiful visuals for the plenary part. The visitors were taken into the stories of the speakers, which were reinforced by our visual material.

Thus, the VNG annually makes use of our full service in event services, with the advantage that they have only one point of contact.
