Digital Signage solution for the NS

For several years, Heuvelman has been a partner of the Dutch Railways, with the aim of developing and implementing a concept for renewing the Public Transport Services and Tickets stores across the country. Currently, 16 stores have been redesigned and installed to satisfaction, and the next 10 are planned for 2021.

At several larger stations, travelers are assisted by staff with questions about services, purchasing subscriptions, and providing travel advice. The NS aims to help travelers and local carriers as much as possible with information and sales of travel for train, bus, metro, and tram. Travelers can also find information on the information screens about travel and can plan their journey and receive it digitally at the self-service table.

Test store

The first store was executed as a pilot in The Hague. This Public Transport Services store is based on our narrowcasting software. All subsequent assignments have been awarded to Heuvelman. The NS has chosen PADS software in combination with the CMS module from Heuvelman. After the concept, several Public Transport Services stores have been set up. Currently, 16 stores have been redesigned and installed to satisfaction. The goal of the NS is to provide all larger stations with a Public Transport Services and Tickets store, totaling approximately 26 stores.

AV solution

Heuvelman has equipped the stores audiovisually with multiple screens and realized all necessary connections for acquiring the correct information. Various options are possible, such as separate screens, video walls, and touch screens. All travel information is displayed on the video wall in portrait mode, making it easy to read. In addition to travel information, advertisements can also be displayed on the video walls and separate screens. The self-service tables are equipped with touch screens. The majority of the content is automatically loaded through connections to the NS and other public transport providers. All other content, commercials, and ad-hoc travel information are sent from Heuvelman's headquarters.

Service

The proper functioning of the equipment is continuously monitored from our headquarters in IJsselstein via the Heuvelman Heartbeat system. The system continuously checks the operation of the equipment, and before a malfunction is noticed by the user, the system has already attempted to resolve the issue and automatically sent a notification to Heuvelman's Service Center. The staff at our Service Center can then immediately determine whether further action is necessary or if the issue has already been resolved by the system.

Custom content

The management of the content on the various screens of the narrowcasting system is done remotely via the Control Management System. This system has been developed in-house by Heuvelman. Our Content Design department ensures new content and its management daily. Through our service and management control center, the condition of the equipment and the displayed content is monitored 24/7 on large monitors.
