Provincial House of South Holland

Professional LED and Meeting Solutions

The Provincial Government Building of South Holland — a province with many faces and diverse natural beauty — is a true eye-catcher. Our colleagues at Heuvelman not only designed and installed a LED videowall solution in the new Event Room, but also provided the audiovisual setup for the completely renovated Assembly Hall (Statenzaal) and Committee Room (Commissiezaal).

PROCESS HIGHLIGHT

We’d like to take you through the entire process of this remarkable project. It all started in August 2020, when our tender specialist Bart received a request for the provincial government building. Together with Karim (Project Engineer) and Joost (Project Manager and Technical Advisor), they drafted a comprehensive and fitting proposal—and won the tender! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s rewind a bit.

Karim shares his experience:
“Mid-August 2020, I received the tender documents for the new C-building of the Province of South Holland.”

“It quickly became clear that this would be a large-scale project. A fantastic challenge!”

- Karim

“The documents outlined several unique technical requirements, such as a 25-meter-wide LED videowall. I translated these needs into a feasible plan for the proposal. After winning the tender, we entered an intensive design phase that lasted nearly a year and a half. Together with Joost, Paul Smulders from PZH (Province of South Holland), and construction firm Kuijpers, I integrated all technical solutions into the building plans. For the Event Room's LED videowall, we collaborated with Smartmetals to create a custom steel frame.”

“Another major challenge in this project,” Karim continues, “was integrating our AV solutions into the large Provincial network. Almost all AV connections within the building operate over IP and need to seamlessly move between rooms—for example, for livestreaming. Creating and implementing such a complex AV network within a broader IT system that supports thousands of other users with entirely different applications is quite the task.”

Relocation

Joost continues:
“At the beginning of the renovation, the Committee Room and Assembly Hall were both relocated to different parts of the building. The Assembly Hall was moved into the current Event Room, and vice versa.”

LED Solution

“The Event Room was the first to be transformed,” says Joost. “A total of 207 LED panels were mounted on a steel frame. The full screen, spanning over 25 meters wide, is truly a showstopper. The panels are seamlessly connected—even continuing through the doorway to the hallway—creating a spectacular effect.”

Of course, the LED videowall wouldn’t be as impressive without the right content! Our Content & Design department worked hard to select and produce high-quality visuals and audio, ensuring visitors are welcomed with a stunning and immersive experience.

Assembly Hall and Committee Room

Joost continues enthusiastically:
“The Assembly Hall is a beautiful space filled with audiovisual technology that’s mostly hidden from view. In collaboration with MVI and Notubiz, the software and hardware are perfectly integrated. This allows agenda points to appear live on microphone displays and online, so remote viewers can follow along in real time. The video stream is seamlessly linked to the software.”

The room features six cameras, three large LED videowalls, and several loudspeakers. To make it even more user-friendly, all equipment is operated via AMX panels, allowing anyone to activate and use the system in no time.

The Committee Room functions similarly to the Assembly Hall, though it’s a smaller version. It has been outfitted in much the same way.
And let’s not forget about the other meeting rooms and halls—most are now equipped with the latest technology and ready for a fresh start.

“The very first committee meeting in the Assembly Hall took place on August 31, 2022 — quite an exciting moment.”

Behind the Scenes

Sander (Work Preparer at Heuvelman) shares:
“In my role, I ensure all equipment is properly prepared for installation—with the latest firmware and configurations—before heading to the site.

These days, due to chip shortages, deliveries from suppliers often happen after the project has already started. This means part of the equipment setup now has to be done on location, which brings new challenges—but also new opportunities.

Collaborating with electricians, IT departments, and my direct colleagues provides new insights that help us develop more efficient solutions. Being more involved in the field gives me the feeling that I’ve contributed that extra touch of quality.”

“I feel like I was able to add that little extra, together with my colleagues—and that feels great!”

Installation

Laurens, the on-site project leader, shares:
“I join the project toward the end to configure the equipment. We review system functionality and prepare everything so users can operate it without issues. Later in the process, we conduct the final check to ensure the entire system is working as intended. This includes fine-tuning the cameras and properly positioning the screens.

We also calibrate and configure the audio system to guarantee perfect speech intelligibility and meet user requirements. Once everything is ready, the final handover is planned together with Joost.”

“My colleagues design the systems—I make sure they’re installed exactly where they’re needed. That’s a big responsibility.”

Grand opening

On September 14, 2022, the official reopening took place—none other than the King himself was present. As audiovisual partner, Heuvelman facilitated the event, from live stream to light show. [Read more about the opening here.
