Microsoft Teams Rooms license change

Microsoft Teams Rooms is a version of Microsoft Teams for meeting rooms and other collaborative spaces. It allows you to integrate appointments into your calendar, automatically control devices, and join meetings with a single click.

Since September 1, 2022, Microsoft has a new licensing model for the use of Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard and Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium. These two licenses have different names (standard has become basic and premium has become pro). The functionalities have changed slightly compared to the Standard and Premium versions.

Currently, the "old" licenses still function if the license period has not yet expired, but this is until July 2023, after which these licenses will automatically stop.

The following functionalities that we at Heuvelman regularly encounter will only be available in the Pro license:

• All Teams Rooms devices must be provided with a new Teams Rooms Basic or Teams Rooms Pro license by July 2023;
• The Teams Rooms Basic license is free, and Teams Rooms Pro costs €33.70 (ex. VAT) per room/per month;
• A maximum of 25 Teams Rooms Basic licenses are allowed within one Microsoft 365 environment;
• The license change applies to Windows, Android, and Surface Hub equipment.
• Existing licenses will NOT be automatically transferred to a Teams Rooms Basic or a Teams Rooms Pro license.
• Heuvelman cannot sell or configure these licenses for the customer. They must change their Microsoft 365 licenses themselves because these licenses belong to the customer.

The following functionalities that we at Heuvelman regularly encounter will only be available in the Pro license:

• Dual Screen;
• Use of Teams Panel;
• Whiteboard sharing with Content Capture Camera;
• Speaker Transcript;
• AI Noise Suppression;
• Device analytics and Intune support.

User licenses Teams Rooms Standard and Teams Rooms Premium assigned to Teams meeting devices must be replaced by a Teams Rooms Basic or Teams Rooms Pro license before July 1, 2023.

Since July 1, 2023, the old licenses will no longer work.
