Microsoft Surface

In essence, Microsoft Surface is a computer which is built into a table. The table top consists of a reflective screen. Underneath the screen there is a projector which can project images on to the screen. It also contains 5 cameras which can detect infrared light that is reflected off the fingers. The cameras can also detect objects if they have been tagged.

Users can operate the machine with their fingers, enabling them to touch and move objects on the screen. Objects such as paintbrushes or small blocks can also be used, allowing Microsoft Surface to detect a variety of shapes. The Surface can also detect specific objects that have been tagged. This could be useful, for example with wine. If the user places his glass on the table, Surface will automatically recognize the wine and give all kinds of information about it.
Microsoft Surface can process as many as 52 touches simultaneously. This is equivalent to four people using ten fingers simultaneously, together with twelve objects placed on the table.
